Nuess Places Fifth in 400 IM at NCAA Championships

Arizona State senior swimmer C.J. Nuess and junior diver Micky Benedetti had strong finishes in day two of the NCAA Men's Swimming Championships at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash. The Sun Devils jumped five spots from yesterday and are currently in 17th with 33 points.

Nuess clocked in a time of 3:44.82 in the 400 IM to place fifth overall. Nuess had earned a spot in the championship final with a time of 3:44.69. Earlier in the season, Nuess set the new ASU standard in the 400 IM at 3:44.51. At last season's NCAA Championships, Nuess placed 10th overall in the 400 IM.

Benedetti placed 10th overall in the three-meter. The junior scored 363.15 points in the consolation final to finish in the nation's top ten. Benedetti had scored 348.25 points in the preliminaries to earn a spot in the consolation finals.

The NCAA Men's Swimming Championships conclude tomorrow. Nuess, the 2008 Pac-10 Champion in the 1,650 freestyle, will compete in the event. Benedetti will look to improve on his runner-up standings from last year's NCAA Championships on the platform tomorrow.
