ACADEMIC ALL-CONFERENCE AND ALL-AMERICAN

ASU ranks #2 in the Pac-10 Conference and is ranked in the top 10 in Division I Athletics for highest number of Academic All-Americans since 2000

  • 6 Sun Devil Student-Athletes were named ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American

  • April Kubishta was voted as the Women's Track & Field Academic All-American of the Year
  • 21 Sun Devil Student-Athletes were named Academic All-Region (ESPN the Magazine District VIII)
  • 100 student-athletes have been named to the PAC-10 All-Academic Team thus far, with several sports not yet reported
  • 31 Sun Devil student-athletes have currently been named 1st team Pac-10 Academic All Conference

AWARDS & SCHOLARSHIPS

  • Arizona State Women's Track and Field was named the 2008 USTFCCCA Women's All-Academic Team of the Year
  • Azahara Munoz (Women's Golf) was the recipient of this year's Edith Cummings Munson Award. The award goes to the student-athlete who is both a NGCA All-American Scholar and a NGCA All-American.
  • Steve Neuwert (Men's Swimming) has been named the PAC-10 Conference Men's Swimming Scholar-Athlete of the Year, presented by Toyo Tires®. This award honors collegiate student-athletes that are standouts both academically and in their sports discipline.
  • Jacquelyn Johnson (Women's Track and Field) is one of Five Honda-Broderick Cup Finalists which is presented annually to the Collegiate Woman of the Year. Johnson already was the recipient of the 2008 Honda Sports Award being recognized as the top female collegiate track and field athlete in the nation
  • April Kubishta was the 2008 Pac-10 Conference Women's Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year
  • Women's Basketball has received a grant from the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Grant Program. ASU is planning to use the grant for many exciting activities and initiatives, including growing the Character Code Game, the Sparky's Kids to College Program and the Hoop Devils Kids Club.
  • Kate Engelbrecht (W. Basketball) was named the Rudy L. Lavik Memorial Award winner for outstanding Kinesiology junior of the year for 2008.
  • Rhiannan Baca, Megan Elliott, Kaitlin Cochran, Jackie Vasquez and Kristen Miller, all members of ASU's Softball team, received the 2008 College of Education Dean's Excellence Award for "leading by example".
  • PAC-10 Post Graduate Scholarships were awarded to Ryan Sontag (Baseball), Jason Trulson (Wrestling), Lindsey Brown (Swimming), and Jackie Vasquez (Softball)
  • Michael Marquardt (Football) will receive a post-graduate scholarship from the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame

ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHTS

  • 60% of all student-athletes are Maroon and Gold Scholar Athletes (earning a 3.00 GPA or above in the Fall or Spring semester)
  • 45% of all student-athletes have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above
  • 12 student-athletes have a cumulative GPA of 4.00
  • All of ASU's Women's athletic teams completed the 2007-08 year with a team GPA over 3.00. Soccer leads the way with a 3.61 team GPA with Women's Golf, Softball, and Women's Tennis all over 3.25.
  • 15 of ASU's 22 sports have cumulative team GPAs of 3.00 and above, with all sports at 2.85 or above except for Football, the largest sport.
  • This year marks the tenth straight year that at least one Sun Devil Men's Golfer has earned PAC-10 All-Academic 1st Team Honors.

APR - ACADEMIC PROGRESS RATE

  • 6 sports (Men's Swimming, Men's Cross Country, Softball, Women's Swimming, Women's Tennis, and Volleyball) had a single year APR of 1000, with Women's Tennis being recognized publicly by the NCAA for their perfect score over 4 years.
  • 17 of ASU's 22 sports either improved from last year to this year or stayed at their current high score (968 and 1000).

GRADUATION RATE / GSR (GRADUATION SUCCESS RATE)

  • Currently, 92 student-athletes have earned their degrees in 07/08

COMMUNITY SERVICE

  • 450 ASU Student Athletes (85% of ASU student-athletes) performed 2800 hours of community service, engaging over 105,000 youth and adults in the community
  • Every ASU team has had student-athletes participate in at least one service project
